A R Richards provides reliable skip hire across Staffordshire, backed by over 40 years of experience in waste management and a fleet large enough to handle everything from a single household clearance to ongoing commercial contracts.

Skip sizes to suit every job
Not every project needs the same skip. A small bathroom refit in Lichfield might only call for a 4-yard mini skip, while a full house renovation in Rugeley could easily fill a 12-yard or 14-yard builder’s skip. For larger commercial or demolition projects – particularly across industrial estates in Stafford or Tamworth – our roll-on/roll-off skips can reach up to 40 yards, giving you the capacity to keep a site moving without waiting for multiple collections.
If you’re not sure which size you need, it’s almost always better to go up a size. The price difference between sizes is usually less than the cost of booking a second delivery, and overfilled skips can’t be collected legally. Take a look at our skip sizes and prices for a full breakdown of dimensions and what each size can hold.
What can go in a skip?
Most general household and building waste is fine – timber, plasterboard, garden waste, rubble, old furniture, soil, metal, and general rubbish can all go in. We sort and recycle as much as possible at our licensed facility, so even mixed loads are handled responsibly.
There are a few things that can’t go in a standard skip, though. Asbestos, gas bottles, tyres, clinical waste, fridges, and electrical items all need specialist handling. If your project in Staffordshire involves any of these materials, give us a call and we’ll arrange the right solution – we handle hazardous and specialist waste separately through our licensed service.
Permits and road placement
If you need your skip placed on a public road or pavement rather than a private driveway, you’ll need a permit from the relevant council. In most of Staffordshire, that’s Staffordshire County Council for highways or the relevant district council. Permits typically take two to three working days to arrange, so it’s worth factoring that into your timeline if you’re on a tight schedule.
We can advise on permit requirements when you book and help make sure everything is in order before delivery day. It’s one less thing to think about – especially if you’re juggling trades on a renovation project and just want the skip to turn up when it’s supposed to.
Staffordshire skip hire for businesses
Skip hire isn’t just for domestic clearances. Plenty of our Staffordshire customers are builders, landscapers, facility managers, and business owners who need a regular or one-off waste solution. We offer scheduled collections for businesses generating consistent waste, and we can supply multiple skips to a single site if a project demands it.
For commercial customers, we provide full waste transfer documentation and can tailor a commercial skip hire arrangement that keeps your site compliant without overcomplicating your day. Whether you’re running a shopfit in Stafford town centre or a groundworks contract near Uttoxeter, the process is straightforward: tell us what you need, and we’ll have it with you.
