On Sunday 17th November at 10am Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices with be hosting their 36-hour fund raising marathon. They are wanting to raise an amazing £400,000 to bring fun and joy to the lives of every local child with a life-threatening condition.
What are Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith?
Hope House is named after baby Hope Peachey who died when she was just ten months old. Hopes Parents, Caroline and Roger Peachey, really appreciated how important the help of Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham were for them when they were struggling to care for their seriously ill child alone.
Caroline was part of the Shrewsbury Opportunity Group, a play scheme for able bodied and disabled children. In 1990, Caroline and the Group called a public meeting to bring together parents, healthcare professionals and potential supporters.
On March 4th 1991 an ambitious appeal was launched to raise the £1.5 million needed to build their first hospice, Hope House, in Morda near Oswestry. With the support of the local communities and people from every town and village across the region holding coffee morning, bring and buy sales and sponsored events they were able to reach the grand total they needed. Building started in 1993 and they were able to open the doors in October 1995.
In 2004 the opened their second hospice, Tŷ Gobaith, just outside Conwy in North Wales. It is a more convenient for families from North Wales, and sensitive to the needs of the local population, many of whom speak Welsh as a first language.
What do they do?
Hope House Children’s Hospices is a charity that gives every local child with a life-threatening condition and their family access to professional care and improves their quality of life from the point of diagnosis. They support more than 750 families who are either caring for a terminally ill child, or whose child has died.It costs £9.6 million every year to run their services. Approximately two month’s income comes from statutory sources and for other 10 months of the year they are dependent on public support.Their mission is to reach every child with a life-threatening condition in their area, to give them and their families access to improve their quality of life, and to raise the money they need to do this.
What is the Quality Moments Matter Fundraiser?
On November 17th and 18th the whole Hope House community will come together to help raise as much as they can to help the children who go to Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith live their best lives. For 36 hours they will be running a fundraising marathon to raise the £400,000 needed to give children the quality moments they deserve. They know they can currently afford to provide the vital clinical care for every child who needs it, but this additional money will provide the fun and laughter, the extra activities such as days out, therapeutic play and the little adventures that every child deserves to enjoy.
The best part is that every £1 that is donated it will be match funded by the campaigns Donors, meaning one donation = twice the impact.
Why do A.R.Richards Support Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices?
One of our Directors, Andrew Richards, was introduced to the charity and the amazing work Hope House does through being the Chairman of Market Drayton Rugby Club.
Andrew was invited to visit Hope House in Morda, Oswestry and got to see first hand what the money the rugby club had raised was going towards, so he decided to make one of our main charities be Hope House that we sponsor each year.
This year will be our third year at being Champions for the 36-hour marathon and we have set ourselves a target of £22,500 to hit by 10pm on Monday 18th. We will be sharing our donation link at the start for the fund raiser on Sunday morning.
