Cost of Green Waste Recycling Represented
As we transition into autumn, Local News has come forward as Shropshire Council has announced a new green waste charge that came into effect on the 1st of October 2024. While this initiative aims to streamline green waste management, it introduces an annual fee for garden waste collection services. If you’re a keen gardener or someone with a lush lawn and flower beds, here’s everything you need to know about the new system—and how A.R. Richards can offer a comprehensive solution to your green waste needs.
The New Green Waste Charge Explained from the Local News
Since the 1st of October 2024, Shropshire residents have been required to subscribe to an annual fee of £56 if they want the council to continue collecting their garden waste every two weeks. This service will run from the date of subscription through to 30 September 2025. Residents have until 31 March 2025 to register, but the charge remains the same regardless of when you sign up.
Once registered, your garden bin or sacks will be collected on your usual day. However, food waste will no longer be accepted in the garden bins.

Instead, the waste collected will be turned into compost for use in agriculture and horticulture, contributing to Shropshire’s green initiatives.
The council plans to send leaflets to every household to ensure everyone knows about the changes and how to subscribe. However, if this annual subscription isn’t for you, A.R. Richards has alternative solutions for handling your green waste efficiently and on your terms.
