In our modern world, the issue of plastic waste has become increasingly urgent. With World Earth Day just gone by on Monday, 22nd April, exploring sustainable solutions to this pressing environmental challenge is more important than ever. At A.R. Richards Ltd, we’re proud to assist in plastic recycling, offering specialised services to ensure waste is managed responsibly. But our efforts alone aren’t enough – we need everyone to join the fight against plastic pollution!

Plastic Collection
Did you know...
  • Plastics are a danger to humanity and all living creatures, disrupting the delicate balance of life on Earth.
  • Since the introduction of plastic in the 1950s, humans have produced 8.3 billion metric tonnes of plastic, a study by the University of California showed.
  • And out of all that, 79% of the plastic that has been made STILL sits in landfills or the natural environment (there is a small exception of some that have been incinerated or recycled).
  • At least 14 million tons of plastic are in our oceans yearly. This is because many countries lack the infrastructure to implement preventative measures to combat pollution.
  • When plastic ends up in landfills, they are still a problem. Plastic is proven to break down into tiny toxic particles that contaminate the soil and waterways. In the end, these tiny particles enter the food we eat.

Here's how you can make a difference even after World Earth Day!

Single Use Plastic

Reduce Single-Use Plastics

One of the most effective ways to tackle plastic waste is to reduce our consumption of single-use plastics. Swap out disposable items like plastic water bottles and shopping bags for reusable alternatives. The Earth Day Organisation demands a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040. If you make changes now to stop purchasing single-use plastic items, we can collectively beat this goal. Every small change makes a big difference!

Recycle Properly

Proper recycling is essential to divert plastic waste from landfills and incinerators. To recycle correctly, familiarise yourself with your local community’s recycling guidelines. To make the most of your recycling efforts, rinse out containers, remove caps and labels, and sort materials according to their type. By doing so, you can play your part in keeping the environment clean and healthy.

Support Businesses with Sustainable Practices

It’s always a good idea to support businesses that prioritise sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Look for products packaged in recyclable materials or made from recycled content.

By choosing to buy from such businesses, you can play an important role in encouraging more companies to adopt environmentally responsible practices. Remember, small steps can make a big difference in protecting our planet.

Educate Yourself and Others

Knowledge is power when it comes to tackling plastic pollution. Take the time to educate yourself about the environmental impact of plastic waste and share what you learn with others. Raise awareness in your community and advocate for policies that support waste reduction and recycling efforts. A lot of what we’ve learnt was shared with us by the Earth Day Organisation, go to their website and have a read of their fantastic research!

Get Creative with Repurposing

Get creative with finding new uses for old plastic items. Upcycle plastic containers into storage solutions, garden planters, or arts and crafts projects. Repurposing items not only reduces waste but also gives them a second life.

How is A.R. Richards Ltd helping businesses?

At A.R. Richards Ltd, we’re committed to providing sustainable solutions for plastic waste management. Our process results in 98% diverted from landfill. Here’s how it works:

  1. Plastic arrives at Bensite.
  2. All materials are sorted by hand to be counted accurately on site.
  3. The plastics are filtered into a baler to be compacted for transport.
  4. We then deliver off-site to be shredded or granulated.
  5. The shredded and granulated material is then washed thoroughly to remove any contaminants that may be present.
  6. The results are then processed through quality control.
  7. The final product will be bagged and dispatched to the next manufacturer for their intended use.
  8. The cycle repeats.

Following these steps ensures that plastic is reused and contributes towards a more sustainable future. Our team is happy to come to your site, assess your waste needs, and work around your schedule. This is a free, no-obligation visit to help reduce costs and ensure your waste is managed professionally.

Together, we can make a real difference in the fight against plastic pollution. Let’s work together to create a cleaner, greener future for all. Contact us by phone or email today!
